Welcome to My First Blog!

Hello there! Welcome to my first-ever blog. I had been putting this idea off for a while, but I thought today is the day that I finally take action.

Just a little bit of info about myself: Hi, my name is Carolina, or, as most of the people in my life call me, Carol. I'm a 20-year-old, A-level, KYUEM graduate student who is currently waiting for her enrollment into university, which will take place in September. I'm from Malaysia (Sabah in particular) and will be going into UNMC as a Yayasan Sabah scholar. A few of my favourite pastime activities would be reading, playing musical instruments, and maybe even exercising. Occasionally. Okay, that last one might be a lie. Oh, and I'm taking Psychology by the way (Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience to be specific because that sounds *fancy*).

But, you'll really get to know me after reading a few blog posts which I plan to submit once every week if this...Hobby? Venture? I'm not sure what to call it, succeeds to hold up despite my constant switch of interest from one thing to another. I will try my best to make this hobby stick, though.

What I'm Planning to Write About

The main theme of my blog would be Self-Education or Self-Improvement

Here is a little backstory.

For most of my life, I always had a knack for increasing knowledge and educating myself in things that I'm interested in because learning is so much fun. Personally, I dealt with (and still deal with, though to a lesser extent) social anxiety and that hindered me from doing a lot of activities that I've wanted to, which includes going to extracurricular classes, and even tuition classes. Thus I had to take it upon myself to study differently than my peers, and I had relied a lot on the Internet to provide me with the extra materials. This reliance upon the Internet for my education did not just stop at my academic journey. I also ended up learning a lot of the skills that I have today (drawing portraits, playing the ukulele, guitar, and piano) through the Internet, for free! Therefore I want to document my self-learning journey with the help of the Internet to encourage other students like me to start their own journey as well.

Since I still am a student, I plan to mostly write about my academic journey. What kind of experiences that I had encountered, what are the valuable lessons that I want to share, and so on.

Some other topics I'd like to include as well are:

  • Books, where I want to share my thoughts and lessons learned from books I just read, hoping to include tips on how to apply those lessons as well.
  • Financial Journey. I am currently on my own financial journey, and I'd like to share the lessons I've learned along the way. More people should have increased awareness of the importance of financial literacy, especially in times of crisis like this.
  • Music! because, who doesn't love music? This is more of what I had learnt as I am still trying to teach myself more about music theory.
  • And many more self-learning projects!
If you're a student like me, and interested in joining me on my self-education journey, do stick around! Thank you for reading this first-ever post from me, and I'll see you next week!

My A-Level Experience in KYUEM (pt.2)

Hi guys! Welcome back to my (supposedly) weekly blog :D I know, I missed out on last week's post, because I was...busy (a truer word would be: distracted) and I'm sorry! But I'm back to publishing a new post for the week, a continuation of last week's post. Happy reading! Season 3: Blood, Sweat, and Tears ( cue BTS music ) The main event for this semester was all about university applications . Naturally, this semester was going to be tough. But with the ongoing pandemic, and added stress that I got myself into, it was much worse than I expected. By this point, I already started my personal statement (PS) writing process. I'd done a lot of things out of my comfort zone to write out my final draft. Before the semester started, I already started to build my own website/organization called AcadStrive ( www.acadstrive.com , if you wanna check it out), as a side project to be included in my PS. But the problem with being the founder of my organization was, I had zero ...

When You Try Your Best, But You Don't Succeed ~

Hey! Welcome back to my blog! I've gotten a lot of warm messages in regards to my last post, and I appreciate every single one of them. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my post, and thank you for the encouraging words :) I'm extremely happy that my story made some of you that read it feel not as alone. Today, I'm feeling much better about the whole situation, and I have a much brighter outlook on it. My mental health has improved significantly too, and I'm writing this post to share how I dealt with my recovery/healing journey. Enjoy! ( warning: I will be really honest and vulnerable, so if you don't want to read depressing stuff, please click away! ) Memes are my coping mechanism okay Now, where do I begin... I guess my mental health started to get worse during Sem 3 of my college days and it was mostly due to academic-related stress, but simultaneously because of my social life. I'm not gonna talk much about why that latter part is because it'...
